After seeing the previous edition of the 810varsity Best of the Midwest Showcase event succumb to inclement weather, the make-up, slated to be held on Feb. 11 at Blue Valley Northwest High School, might be even better.
The field features more than a dozen Division I recruits and several of the top teams in Missouri and Kansas.
9 p.m. — Blue Valley Northwest (Kan.) vs. Chaminade (Mo.)
Two of the premier teams in each state, Chaminade is off to a 16-1 start and have now won 12 straight games. The Red Devils feature 2018 wings Jericole Hellems and Karington Davis. Hellems recently drew an offer from Indiana and is among St. Louis’ area’s top scorers at 23.5 points per game, while Davis is a 6’6 2018 wing player who holds an offer from Saint Louis.
7:30 p.m. — St. James Academy (Kan.) vs. Topeka Hayden (Kan.)
Easily two of the most talented teams in Kansas, this contest will feature Zach Thornhill (Omaha) and 2018 6’10 forward Keenan Fitzmorris, who holds numerous Division I offers. Hayden, meanwhile, features Zach Harvey, a talented 2019 wing player who holds numerous high major offers already.
6 p.m. — Webster Groves (Mo.) vs. Iowa City West (Iowa)
Carte’Are Gordon and Courtney Ramey are among the nation’s premier talents in the 2018 class and have won seven straight to improve to 13-2. Gordon has committed to St. Louis and new head coach Travis Ford, while Ramey has become one of the midwest’s most sought after prospects.
Iowa City West is 12-1 this season features Iowa recruits 6’7 2019 Patrick McCaffrey and 6’6 2017 Connor McCaffrey, as well as 2017 guard Devontae Lane.
4:30 p.m. — Barstow (Mo.) vs. Ottawa (Kan.)
Ottawa is off to an 8-3 start and feature one of the state’s top uncommitted players in 6’4 2017 wing Isaac McCullough. Barstow counters with a Missouri Player of the Year candidate Jacob Gilyard who is averaging more than 30 points per game and helped Barstow win the St. Thomas Aquinas tournament a week ago.
2:30 p.m. — Lawrence (Kan.) vs. Liberty (Mo.)
Lawrence is 8-4 this season and are among the state’s most talented and exciting teams to watch. They feature size, athleticism and tremendous depth with a score of talented athletes coming off the bench. Liberty has put together a solid season of its own, going 12-2 to start the season. They are led by 2018 point guard Jalen Lewis.
1 p.m. — Free State (Kan.) vs. Raytown (Mo.)
This will be a terrific match-up between two teams that bring tremendous size to the court. Raytown has a strong, physical front line featuring 2018 football standouts Devin Drew and Mason Farr, while Free State features 2017 forwards Cameron Clark, Sloan Thomsen and others.
