There is something to be said about a player that you see in an empty gym during the offseason, of course I had seen this young man at AAU events prior to but on this occasion he was in a hot gym with his coach putting in intense work. Seeing this probably impressed me more about him than any other time I had seen him play, he was working on all aspects off his game and seeing him play this season, you can see how much the hard work pay off. Last week I had the privilege of stopping in to West Bladen HS to see the Woodlife Christmas Tournament to see West Bladen play Dillon in the Championship game. Both teams went at it and although there was a ton of talent on the floor, one player stood out a bit more than the others and that young man was the same young man I saw in a hot gym a few months earlier working on his game. Well what his name? He goes by the name of the Sayaun Dent and he’s a player that college coaches need to be tracking on this point.
What makes him special?
First of all his midrange jumper was the first thing that I noticed, his shooting form is a little unorthodox but is efficient, he gets good lift on his shot which doesn’t allow his shot to be blocked. He has a strong upper body, which allows to him to get to the spots that he wants without being hindered too much by defenders. His athleticism is solid and he has the ability to finish above the rim even though he was more productive from midrange in the game I watched. Defensively he gets after it, he takes his matchup personally and doesn’t allow himself to be scored on easily, he has good lateral quickness and uses his strength to battle inside when he has to switch on to big men. What I liked the most about him was that he is a team player, although he is a gifted scorer, he is not a selfish player and at the end of the day he only cares about getting the Win for his squad.
