There is a saying that every team needs a shooter and that’s exactly what Gene Brown brings to the table for the New Life Christian Monarchs. In his first season with the team he has performed well throughout the first half of the year with some good scoring numbers against various level opponents including 26 Points against Cedar Ridge recently. Paired up with high scoring teammate Rashard Royster in the backcourt, they have teamed up to take care of a huge part of the scoring load as well as being some of the leaders in steals for the squad. Also Gene was just named All-Tournament during the Holiday In the Pines Tournament that New Life Christian recently competed in.
What makes him special?
Well first and foremost is his ability to shoot the ball, he doesn’t have the quickest release on his shot but put a lot of arc on it to make up for him getting the ball off a tad bit slower. He can knock down shots from deep as he has very nice range on his shot ,as well as scoring the ball off the catch and off the dribble but is more efficient off the catch, he also does a very good job of knocking down the midrange jumper off one dribble pullups very efficiently. Athletically he is what I would call a sneaky athlete, when you first look at him you may not think he can get off the floor that well but he does have some bounce and can finish some plays above the rim. The key for Gene will be to continue to add more muscle to his frame and tighten up his ball handling some, he has a very long wingspan that he uses for blocks and deflections so he can definitely be a good defender when he applies himself. JUCO, D3, and NAIA programs could all be a good fit for potentially for this young man as he is still raw and developing , if he applies himself and works hard I believe he could be a solid player for the right program at the next level.
