Continue ReadingThis game was a fun one to watch without a doubt, both teams came into the game with very high energy and brought it on both ends of the floor. In the 4th Quarter is where Elevation Prep took over and never lost the lead, the constant pressure took its toll on New Life and Elevation Prep would take the win.
Best Shooter: New Life Christian Senior Guard Gene Brown– Gene is a knock down shooter that really excels when he’s in catch and shoot situations. Throughout this game in particular he shot the ball at a high percentage and was solid defensively. He has a nice long wingspan and can be a very good player on the next level if he continues to work, he finished with 20 Points on the night, as of now he has CVCC and FTCC showing interest
Best Underclassmen: Elevation Prep Sophomore Guard Devian Smith– Devian is an absolute problem! While watching him play I had assumed that he was a senior to his physique and demeanor on the floor so once I found out that he was just a sophomore I was in complete shock. He is an outstanding passer but score the ball as well, he is what we would call a floor general, although he is younger he does a great job of communication with coaches and teammates. He finished the night with 18 Points and 10 Assist on the night, one to keep a close eye on.
Best Big: Elevation Prep Senior Will Boyd– Numerous JUCO programs have expressed interest in this young man as well as D2 School Livingstone and I must say I am not surprised. He has a lot of the tools that you want a big man to have, first and foremost being height, at 6’8-6’9 with a decent wingspan he matches up well with other bigs. He has soft hands and a nice little jump shot that he can knock down, he still has work to do but is a very solid prospect for the next level.
Best Wing: Elevation Prep Senior Anthony Anderson– Anthony had a very good showing as well, he finished with an impressive double/double with 23 Points and 11 Rebounds on the night. He has a very long wingspan and is about in the 6’4-6’5 height range, what impressed me more than his scoring was how much effort he brought on defense. He was constantly talking, applying pressure and most importantly showing enthusiasm on that end of the floor, too many time players taken plays off when it comes to defense but Anthony clearly doesn’t.
Best Motor: New Life Christian Senior Sirvon John– Sirvon didn’t have his best game scoring the ball but was solid finishing with 11 Points, however where he made the most impact was on the glass and with hustle plays. On the defensive end of the floor he challenges and blocks shots, he still is somewhat raw offensively but does a good job of fulfilling his role on the squad.
Best Point Guard: New Life Christian Senior Guard Rashad Royster–Rashad has been a New Life for a years and has taken on the leadership for the team even as a junior last season. He plays the game with a chip on his shoulder and doesn’t back down from a challenge, he has the ability to score but distributes the ball very well. What impressed me the most was his ability to handle constant pressure throughout the game, he didn’t turn the ball over much at all, finished with 17 Points.
