Top Five Performances
- Brad Davison gave us another Mr. Basketball moment by hitting a buzzer beating three that put the Maple Grove vs Totino-Grace game into overtime. Maple Grove then won 87-84. Brad had 26 points, ten assists, and four boards.
- Brad wasn’t the only standout in this excellent game. Charlie Jacob played well, Rocky Kreuser had 21 and 10 before fouling out, and Tywhon Pickford had 26 points and 7 rebounds in front of Drake. Also, credit Rob Ware for what he has done with this Totino-Grace team.
- In a losing effort Sean Sutherlin of Irondale went for 47 points! Spring Lake Park won by three as up and coming junior Kameron Davis had 29 himself. Davis is a hot name but Sutherlin’s 47 will turn some heads.
- Kyler Kluge went for 30 points on only eight shots last night in Eden Prairie’s win over Bloomington Jefferson. The Eagles improved to 7-4 on the year and Kluge had one of his best games as a high school basketball player.
- Zach Johansen of Heritage Christian, he’s a guy we are going to keep telling you about. Led his team with 27 last night and is putting up 21.4 a game.
Watch out For – Top Five
- Looks like Robbinsdale Armstrong has turned a corner. Wins over Park Center and Osseo mean that this Falcons team has learned to beat not only the teams they should beat, but now some of the top competition as well.
- Highland Park. Let’s be careful to make assumptions on the Scots. These guys have some agile scorers and some workers. They knocked off the Redhawks by five. Highland Park is now 10-2. Dreem Kelly-Jabar scored 21.
- The Cats always plays a tough schedule and are always a tough out in March. They won at Tonka by 15 last night pushing to 5-4. Next up us Chan, Minnehaha Academy, Shakopee, Orono, new Prague, and Delano. Cats always have a tough schedule.
- The Rams are kind of our “darling” in a way as they have rarely been good (major hockey school) but they are 8-3 after beating Clearbook-Gonvick by 18 last night. Coach Hayden has his team playing well and next up is a rematch with Goodridge/Grygla who they lost to in overtime early in the year.
- Minneapolis Southwest. Don’t look now but they have won four of their last five beating Eastview, Johnson, FAIR, and Edison. They’ve scored 193 points combined in their last two games. It was a tough start to the year but watch out for junior Niko Polydorou. He had 38 versus Eastview and 25 last night.
They Keep Winning! – Top Five
- Brooklyn Center is 8-3 after beating Columbia Heights. Deshawn Pickford had 18 for the Centaurs.
- The Blaine Bengals are 7-3 after beating Elk River 69-62. The balance of the Bengals is unmatched by most with four different guys averaging ten a game led by Sam Gerrety.
- Nevis defeated W-H-A convincingly by 23 and are getting ready for a big game with Cass Lake-Bena tomorrow night.
- Stephen-Argyle is 8-2 after defeating Badger/Greenbush-Middle River. Definitely know the name Chris McGylnn who is one of the best northern scorers people need to know.
- A balanced effort of seven guys scoring eight or more points allowed Rogers to cruise against Chisago Lakes for an 82-59 win. Jordan Belka scored 18 to lead.
Taking Care of Business – Top Five
- Wayzata took care of St. Louis Park by 17 and stays undefeated on the season. The Trojans had seven guys score at least three times led by Mitch Faust and Jacob Beeninga who had 13.
- Apple Valley defeated Rosemount by 20 points (62-42).
- Esko beat Grand Rapids 64-57 in a key northern Minnesota battle. Esko is 11-1. Adam Trapp had 20 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 blocks in a weekend win over Barnum as well.
- Tech beat rival Apollo by 18 points at Apollo. Tech is the better team and they were able to avoid the rivalry upset.
- Heritage Christian took the challenge from St. Croix Prep and barely winced on their way to a 19 point win. CJ Woda had 21.
Forty-Nine games were cancelled yesterday because of weather.
