Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Quite simply Dosunmu has separated himself from the rest of the point guards in the state and all positions for that matter. He is an effortless point guard that has grown to 6’4” over the last year. Dosunmu can score in bunches with his tremendous speed off the bounce and deep range on his pull up shot. Also gets others involved and can run a team. Active defender. Complete package as a high-major lead guard.
Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young)
Castaneda is a 5’11” point guard with a strong build for his size. Good feel for the game and how to run a team. Understands how to get others involved. Pushes the tempo with speed in transition. Stuffs the stat sheet from the lead guard spot. Scores, assists, and rebounds well for his position. The biggest thing with Castaneda is staying healthy. When on the court he is a mid-major plus prospect.
Kendle Moore (Danville)
Moore had a quality summer on the circuit with Team Rose 16U. He followed that up with a dynamic junior season for Danville. That was no more evident than at the Pontiac Holiday Tournament where Moore went off against Curie when we were front and center. He dropped 36 points and completely dominated the top ranked team in the state at the time. Moore has great speed with the ball in his hands blowing past defenders like they are standing still. Works well around screens in the pick and roll. The area of improvement that has impressed us most is his three point shot. Much more consistent. Mid-major prospect.
DeAndre Heckard (Romeoville)
Heckard has great size for position at 6’1” along with broad shoulders and strong arms. Totally looks the part along with quality athleticism. Has a nice feel for the game and is a plus passer with the ability to find teammates in the open floor as well as dish it off on the interior in the half court. Explosive off the bounce slashing to the basket where he is slippery through traffic getting to the rim. Powerful finishing in the paint. Displayed an improving jump shot. Really competes and has a passion for the game. Should be monitored by LM programs.
Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook)
The junior is especially effective on the defensive end of the floor where he is extremely active getting in passing lanes. He cuts off passes and takes them the other way with lightning speed in transition. Best in the open floor offensively. Slick ball handler that can get to the hoop in one on one situations. Overall has nice vision as a point guard. Low-major prospect in 2018.
Amir Brummett (Decatur MacArthur)
Brummett is one of the more intriguing lead guards in the junior class with his ability to score as well as dish it. The junior guard has shown early in his career he can distribute the ball on occasion as a combo guard along with his ability to really score it. Makes some great dishes for assists, but will also have a high risk pass that might not connect on occasion. As a ball handler he pushes it in transition and is slippery with it in traffic. Deep range on jump shot, but takes a lot of questionable shots. Low-major prospect that would also be a good fit at the JUCO level to refine his game.
Xavier Pinson (St. Patrick’s)
Pinson is a smooth and thin lead guard that is slick with the ball in his hands. He has shot the ball well from the perimeter this year. Puts a ton of arc on his shot. Explosive with the rock in his hands pushing it in traffic where he is slippery getting to the rim. Low-major prospect.
Camron Donatlan (West Aurora)
Donatlan is a slick ball handler from West Aurora. The lefty lead guard has a feel for the game and plays with good pace. More of a combo guard than a natural point guard. Great handles and is quick with the ball. Can hit an occasional jumper. Best slashing in transition. Low-major prospect.
Chase Adams (Marian Catholic)
The 5’8” point guard is a slick ball hander that knows how to run a team. Works well around screens and makes sound decisions with the ball when not trying to be flashy. He is most effective when making the simple play and not the highlight play. Speed in the open floor pushing it and getting others involved. Shot the ball well when we have seen him as a junior pulling up from mid-range and hitting floaters. Quick and shifty off the bounce. Gets in lane. D2 prospect.
Bailey Dee (Champaign Central)
Dee is a power 5’10” point guard that is built like a running back. The junior is more of a scoring point guard that takes it to the cup strong where he draws contact at the rim and finishes through with good body control. Streaky shooter that we have seen shoot it at a better clip this season. D2 prospect.
