I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of these teams in the 5A quarterfinals. Chalmette comes into this game off of a strong showing, albeit capped by a pair of tough losses, in the Sugar Bowl Prep Classic while Bonnabel has been hard to beat, John Curtis being the only team to do it in a month. We might learn something about the state of the top of 5A by this final result.
Natchitoches Central at Bossier
Two of the favorites to win it all in 5A and 4A, respectively; need I say more? This was a five-point loss for Bossier earlier in the season, and since then Bossier has beaten solid 5A teams like Ouachita and Ruston, so this game is clearly winnable.
Zwolle at Florien
Here’s another easy pitch for this game: In my Coach Talk post breaking down the championship race in Class B, the coach mentioned both of these teams as bona fide state championship contenders. Plus, this is your opportunity to see two of our ranked 2018 prospects in Zwolle forward Quinn Perry and Florien guard Brock Booker.
Metairie Park Country Day at Ellender
Both teams are flat-out solid and playing with relatively high stakes: Country Day being No. 3 in Division III and Ellender being No. 4 in 4A, a loss for either team can reasonably be followed by a drop in the power points rankings.
Sicily Island at Delhi
District 2-1A is going to do this quite often, so get ready for the first of many matchups that, in my opinion, pits to Top 28-caliber teams against one another. Both teams are currently in the top 6 of the 1A power points rankings. Sicily Island has been really impressive in the new year, beating Tensas, Oak Grove and Delhi Carter in these first 10 days.
Acadiana at Comeaux
I don’t expect either of these teams to be in the Top 28 come March, but with both of them being in the 10-15 range in the power points, there are a lot of teams out there – Ruston, Helen Cox, St. Amant and Central Lafourche, for example – that hope to pair an advantageous result in this game with a win to adjust their own playoff positioning a little bit.
Others of note: Richwood at Carroll, Donaldsonville at West Feliciana, Wossman at Union, Grace Christian at Glenmora.
