Effingham led for the majority of the early part of the game behind a strong performance from sophomore Landon Wolfe. Centralia got back in it by running their offense to perfection and getting quality looks in the half court. Effingham gave Centralia the opening late and senior wing Dawson Berry made them pay with a game winning three. Centralia won 49-47. Here is our Fab 5: Centralia vs Effingham.
MVP
SF Dawson Berry (Centralia – 2017)
Berry is a 6’4” small forward with plus size and can really space the floor with his perimeter shooting. He moves great without the ball and is money off the catch from three. He drilled the game winner with 5 seconds left in this game. Also hit several others from beyond the arc. Had a nice slash off the bounce. D3/NAIA prospect had 17 points.
Best offensive performance
PG Grant Wolfe (Effingham – 2017)
Wolfe hit some clutch shots late including a runner and a baseline 12 footer. Missed a key free throw which opened the door for Centralia. Wolfe drilled some threes off the catch and was effective in the stop and pop from mid-range. Just a solid floor general that plays with a high IQ. Priority D3. He had 16 points.
Best rebounder
F Jacob Donaldson (Effingham – 2017 – McKendree)
The McKendree commit had a nice stretch where he hit a pull up three and did some work on the glass getting a put back as well as an up and under. Donaldson was solid on the glass throughout the night. He had 7 points.
Best intangibles
SF Landon Wolfe (Effingham – 2019)
The younger Wolfe was outstanding Friday night. He is a physically mature 6’4” forward that does most of his damage on the interior. Wolfe was assertive with quick moves with the ball in the paint. Had a pair of up and unders. Tough on the offensive glass. Drilled a step back from mid-range. Tough and intangibles type kid. He had 14 points.
Best under-the-radar performance
SF Javon Williams (Centralia – 2018)
Williams is the enforcer for the Orphans. He is a 6’3” combo forward that can score well through contact and gets on the glass. Plays super physical. Also hit two corner threes in this one. Finished with 12 points.
