Contenders
Olympus 14-2 (5-0) has a high octane offense with four big time scorers that can go off at anytime. Their four double digit scorers include Matt Lindsey (15ppg), Travis Wagstaff (14ppg), Jeremy Dowdell (14ppg), and Rylan Jones (13ppg). Jones is the most important player as he creates for everyone else and has proven is one of the best point guards in the state as a sophomore. Olympus is the heavy favorite to repeat as the 4A state champ.
Timpview 12-3 (6-0) has one of the best junior in the state in guard Hunter Erickson. He is averaging over 22 points per game and is able to score from anywhere on the court. Timpview also has junior guard Adam Santiago who is averaging 16 points per game. The firepower is there and if they can play consistent defense, Timpview will has a good chance at winning the 4A state title.
Woods Cross 14-2 (5-0) has the best player in all of 4A in Trevin Knell. The University of Califronia Signee is averaging over 26 points per game and has 58 made threes on the year. What makes Woods Cross so dangerous in they have several good role players around Knell. Trevor Trost is a 6-6 big man who can knock down the three, Cameron Allen and Taylor smith are both solid players who have had big games this year. If Knell can continue his play it will allow his role players to excel which will put Woods Cross in the running for a state title run.
Pretenders
Maple Mountain 11-5 (6-0) has surprised many with their 6-0 start in Region 8 play after a rough preseason. The Golden Eagles has two good scores in Parker Christensen and Tyler Boyack. Both of them are capable of going of for a big game at anytime. I still don’t think Maple Mountain is ready for a championship run and could be upset early in the state tournament.
Timpanogos 12-4 (5-1) has a great season so far and have compete against some of the best teams in the state of Utah. Saying that, I don’t believe they are ready for a championship run. Timpanogos is lead by senior guard Dalten Stewart and Sophomore Matt Norman. Both of these players have been consistent scorers. I do think we could see Timpanogos in the semi finals.
Kearns 10-6 (3-2) has so much talent on their roster but has not figured out how to play together yet. Kearns has four or five guards that could play at the next level which makes them dangerous but their inconsistent play will lead to an early exit in the state tournament. The Cougars are lead by junior sharpshooter David Andrew II and senior guards Eshya Wada and Nick Valles.
