Week nine of the preps hoops season in Cincinnati maybe the best week of basketball that we have seen all season. This week provides the Cincinnati area with some great in and out of conference match-ups. So much for the talking, let’s get right to this week’s previews and predictions:
#4 Oak Hills (12-2, 8-0) at Lakota East (10-4, 6-2), Tuesday 7:30pm: Oak Hills cannot look ahead to Friday’s matchup with Mason or this could be an upset in the brewing. Lakota has one of the best scorers in the Cincinnati area in Jarett Cox who is averaging 19 points per game. The junior has help in 6’8 senior forward Evan Kuhlman who is averaging over 17 points per game and has scored over 20 in 4 of the last 5 games. Oak Hills must continue to play the style of defense they have played all season if they want to leave Butler County with a victory.
Prediction: Oak Hills
#2 Summit Country Day (13-0, 7-0) at Cincinnati Christian (12-2, 7-1), Tuesday 7:30pm: Summit is in the same position as Oak Hills in the previous preview. The Silver Knights are playing a good, underrated team the same week as they play a big game versus 10th ranked Taft. Cincinnati Christian has been creating a lot of buzz and a win over a very, very good Summit team would go a long way in validating that buzz.
Prediction: Summit
#5 Mason (11-1, 7-1) at #4 Oak Hills (12-2, 8-0), Friday 7:30pm: This game is basically for all of the marbles in the Greater Miami Conference. Mason lost the first meeting at home by 6 back in December and must win this game if they want at least a share of the conference title. For Mason to win senior guard Eddie Puisis must shot the ball better than he did in the December matchup when he was 3-12 from the floor.
Prediction: Oak Hills
Mt. Healthy (12-5, 6-2) at #6 Wyoming (13-0, 7-0), Saturday 7:30pm: Good out of conference test for the sixth ranked Cowboys. Mt. Healthy is 9-1 in their last 10 games and have the talent to take this game from Wyoming. This is a game were the depth of both teams will be a key factor in whoever wins the game. The Lonnie Grayson (Wyoming) versus DJ Brewton (Mt. Healthy) matchup should be a fun one to watch as well.
Prediction: Wyoming
#2 La Salle (12-2, 1-1) at Walnut Hills (9-4, 7-1), Saturday 7:30pm: A matchup of arguably the best offensive guard and the best defensive guard in the city with La Salle CJ Fleming and Walnut Hills Kenny Thompson. While it will be a team effort stopping Fleming, Thompson will draw the assignment of shadowing Fleming the whole evening. If the Eagles can hold Fleming in check while also knocking down open shots, this could be an upset in the making.
Prediction: La Salle
#10 Taft (12-1, 5-1) at #2 Summit Country Day (13-0, 7-0), Saturday 7:30pm: One of the better out of conference matchups, and for that point matchups period, of the season. There will be a lot of collegiate level talent on the floor for both teams in this game. This game will also come down to the depth of both teams, with the Senators having a deeper bench than Summit. The Malek Green-TJ Walker matchup will also be a fun matchup to watch as well.
Prediction: Taft
