This week also marks the on-court debut for the student-athletes who had to sit the first 11 games due to transfer rules set forth by OHSAA. Here are some of the top games for the 8th week of prep basketball in the Nasty Nati:
Princeton (7-5, 3-4) at Middletown (4-7, 4-3), Friday 7:30pm: The Darius Bazley Tour continues this Friday as the Vikings travel to Middletown to take on the Middies. Bazley, Prep Hoops #2 ranked player for the class of 2018, is coming off a 14 points, 20 rebound and 7 assist effort on Tuesday in Princeton 26 point victory over a solid Fairfield squad. The combination of Bazley along with fellow junior Darweshi Hunter gives the Princeton a dangerous 1-2 punch. This is a team that I would not want to see come tournament time.
Prediction: Princeton
#8 Hughes (10-3, 5-0) at #10 Woodward (10-3, 3-2), Friday 7:30pm: A re-match of the opening game of the season which Hughes won by 13 at home. Big Red travels to Woodward riding an 8 game winning streak lead by Stony Brook commit Corry Long who is averaging 21.2ppg so far this season. This game for Woodward is the start of a huge two game stretch as they fight to stay alive in the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference. It is important that the Bulldogs do not look ahead to their matchup the next day or it will be a long night.
Prediction: Woodward
#7 Roger Bacon (11-2, 3-1) at #10 Woodward (10-3, 3-2), Saturday 6:30pm: A very good matchup between the GCL Co-Ed and the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference. A player to watch for the Bacon is senior F James Johnson. The 6’6 senior is very good at moving without the ball but also has a very nice stroke from behind the arc. Johnson also plays with great effort and does a good job at helping protect the rim for the Spartans and has the potential to be a very good player at the D-II level. For the Bulldogs they must avoid any hangover that might linger from the Hughes game the previous night. With this only being his 2 game back after missing the first 11 games, look for Lonnie Berry to play a huge factor in this game.
Prediction: Roger Bacon
