2nd Edition of Player of the Week
We’re back for the 2nd edition of Player of the Week in the state of Utah. Region play is underway and we had some impressive performances last week. Here are our candidates for player of the week for January 2nd through January 8th. Voting is located at the bottom.
Stockton Shorts 6-3 SR Guard (Copper Hills) had a big-time week that started with a 20 point, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists performance in a win versus Hunter. On Friday Shorts was even better. He had 34 points including 7 three pointers and made the game winning three pointer versus number one ranked Bingham.
James Nelson 6-4 JR Guard (Salem Hills) has continued to impress this year and last week he was near impossible to stop. In two wins he averaged 27.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 3.5 blocks, and 4.5 steals. This kind of all around performance are rare to see and Nelson might be worth the price of admission to watch.
Bassel Tekarli 5-11 SR Guard (Hillcrest) had a monster game for the Huskies this past week. In their region opener, Tekarli had 19 points and 5 assists. Hillcrest was nearly upset by Cyprus when Tekarli made a 25 foot fade away as time expired to send the game into overtime where his team held on for the win.
Trevin Knell 6-5 SR Guard (Woods Cross) again proved he might be the best player in the state of Utah. He averaged nearly 30 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Knell connected on 8 three pointers in the two games. He led Woods Cross to a 23 three point win over on of the best teams in Region 5.
