Hamline Invitational! Hamline is having their holiday event before the 25th which puts them front and center in the Minnesota basketball spotlight. Wednesday they will be the feature of the state with North St. Paul versus Wayzata and Breck playing Minneapolis Henry. The Thursday games are Orono/Henry, Wayzata/Breck, and North St. Paul versus Cristo Rey Jesuit featuring Jericho Sims in front of everybody.
The Biggest Night of the Week (Tuesday). Usually the main night is Friday but this week it’s Tuesday because of holiday. Looking for a game? Here are is a baker;s dozen to see.
- Apple Valley at Lakeville North. Huge South Suburban match-up. Big names. Big coaches. Impacts the top ten in a big way.
- WEM at Waseca. Fantastic contest between top teams right off of I35.
- Edina at BSM. Edina travels the very short distance up 100 to take on the private school neighbors. Both have grabbed the attention of the state.
- East Ridge at New Prague. The Raptors are taking a ride on 494 down to the extended metro to play the Trojans. Interesting new match-up.
- Jordan at St. Peter. This game is huge. They are close rivals and both are undefeated. Somebody has to lose.
- Virginia at Mountain Iron-Buhl. The Devils are a favorite for state up north while the Rangers were at state in Class A last year. Some top northern talent playing.
- Rochester JM at Faribault. Faribault is off to a nice start, can they hang with the Rockets? JM has hammered the teams they’ve played that aren’t ranked 1 or 2 in state.
- Eastview at Lakeville South. The Lightning are 2-2, South is 2-3. Neither wants a loss right now as some panic would be coming at them.
- ACGC at Eden Valley-Watkins. A couple underrated teams that could surprise.
- Champlin Park at Eden Prairie. Not sure the Eagles have the depth for the Rebels but then again, Hopkins and Maple Grove fell so why can’t CP? Or is CP about to prove their number one ranking yet again? Lets Go!
- Totino-Grace at Brooklyn Center. BC is asking us for respect on Twitter. T-G feels they are top ten. Let’s see who deserves it!
- St Charles at PEM. Our Rochester area rankings will be watching those close!
- Cristo Rey at Heritage Christian. What do Woda and Johansen have for the amazing Jericho Sims?
Don’t Forget Thursday! Christmas is close but there are still some key games. Thursday’s Orono vs Mpls Henry is a top ten level game, Monticello at Minnehaha Academy puts Matt Todd and Jalen Suggs on the same floor, Lakeville North is at Woodbury, and Red Lake is at Cass Lake-Bena. Thursday is nearly a packed night of games as teams schedule there instead of Friday.
Friday Night Special. The HVL vs TRC Showdown was re-scheduled for this Friday so all the alums of the schools can zip to Rochester to do some last second shopping and then watch their favorite team at the Civic Center. Goodhue vs Fillmore, PEM vs ZM, Pine Island vs Dover-Eyota, LaCrescent vs Triton, Chatfield vs Hayfield, and Cannon Falls vs Caledonia. There are also games at BSM (vs DeLaSalle) and Kingsland (vs Wabasha-Kellogg) and Richfield is actually going to Milwaukee to play Washington High.
Monday Night Make-Up. Those schools not dealing with Christmas shows taking up gym space were able to quickly make up their cancelled games from last Friday and/or Saturday. Also, several games were added on the schedule for this Monday because a lot of people didn’t want to schedule for Friday. The vast majority of the games are outstate, many of which are make-up games for places where the weather was the worst. Rogers at Mounds View is one that sticks out to see, as does the East Grand Forks vs DGF. Osseo against Roosevelt matches a couple times that really want a win. Proctor vs Barnum should be entertaining too.
