Three Up, Three Down
Three Up, Three Down, debuts in highlighting three teams that are playing well and also highlighting three teams that are struggling.
Three Up:
Sky View (5-0) The Bobcats are off to a terrific start with quality wins over Highland (ID) and Ridgeline. The scoring has been balanced across the board with brothers Peyton and Mason Falslev averaging over 14 points per game and Luke White averaging nearly 12 points per game. The Bobcats will be tested as they travel to Idaho powerhouse Madison High School on Saturday.
Pleasant Grove (5-0) The Vikings have met expectations with staying undefeated thus far. They have quality wins over Timpanogos and Alta. 7’5 Matt Van Komen has been unstoppable as he is averaging over 18 points and 8 rebounds per game. Sharp shooter Keanu Akina has also provided consistent scoring with his 12.8 per game average. This Friday the Vikings will be tested versus a good Springville team.
Hillcrest (5-1) The Huskies have come out of the gates looking impressive with a 5-1 start and their only loss is to powerhouse Woods Cross. They have yet to get a quality win and will look to get that this Friday versus a 6-1 Highland team. The Huskies have three players scoring in double figures including Troy Briner, Stockton Ashby, and John Villanueva.
Three Down:
Bountiful (0-6) The Braves have played a brutally tough schedule thus far but we expected them to have a few wins at this point. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they travel to Las Vegas for the Tarkanian Classic where they will play four quality teams. The only double digit scorer for the Braves is sophomore Brig Willard and he’s averaging 15 points per game.
Maple Mountain (1-5) Many expected the Golden Eagles to break out this year but they have gotten off to a rough start. They have played some tough teams but have been blown out in all of their losses. Parker Christensen is their leading scorer at 14.2 points per game.
Provo (0-3) The Bulldogs were suppose to be a lot better this year with star player Braxton Bailey back for his senior year. Bailey is averaging 24 points per game thus far. I think there is still time for Provo to turn this around and be ready for region play next month.
