Continue ReadingShooting is a skill that will never go out of style, especially with the way that today’s game in played. Even for post players, having the ability to consistently knock down jumpers is a skill that is sought out more these days than at any other time in the game’s history. This is why guys who enter the famed 50/40/90 club are held in such high regard. For those not in the know the 50/40/90 club is for players who shot 50% from the floor, 40% from the three point line and 90% from the foul line. So will there any new members to club from the Cincinnati prep basketball scene? Prep Hoops takes a look at 7 players will feel will have a chance at this prestigious mark in the Cincinnati area:
CJ Fleming G LaSalle C/O 2017: After a season in which he posted a shooting line of 48/38/90, Fleming is off to a red hot start for the 2-0 Lancers posting a line of 88/78/100. Now I do not expect those numbers to stay that high for the whole season, but considering his line last year it would be hard to imagine the Bellarmine commit not joining the club this year. A well-known gym rat, Fleming excels at moving without ball and looks to have improved his ability to score off the bounce.
Keegan McDowell G Moeller C/O 2017: Another Greater Catholic League guard popping up on this list. The Liberty commit is off to a great shooting start with a line of 57/57/100 a year after posting a line of 46/40/70. McDowell is coming off a week were he shot 15 for 25 from the floor (60%) while also going 6 for 11 from the three (54%). This young man can flat out shoot the ball and is averaging 15.4ppg through the first 5 games.
Eddie Puisis G Mason C/O 2017: The seniors has struggled over the past two games shooting a combined 6 for 22 from the field and just 3 of 11 from three point range after starting the season with games of 28, 28 and 24 points respectively. But even with those subpar numbers this week the senior still has a shooting line of 51/46/96. Puisis will have to find the stroke if he wants to join this club as the schedule for the Comets gets much more difficult after the holiday break.
Joey Edmonds G Wyoming C/O 2019: One of the better shooters in the area regardless of class, Edmonds is averaging over 18ppg for the Cowboys with a shooting line of 64/64/83. Free throw shooting is the only way I can see 6’0 sophomore not reaching the 50-40-90 club. Edmonds is one of the top c/o 2019 players in the Cincinnati area. But one question still lingers, is he the best shooter is his own house?
Jake Edmonds G Wyoming C/O 2017: We already talked about little brother Joey so let us now heap praise on the older Edmonds brother Jake, whose shooting line to start the season is 78/80/83. Jake has come close to making this club before after posting a line of 48/40/75 during his junior season. With his brother Joey and Army commit Lonnie Grayson drawing attention on the perimeter, expect Edmonds to get plenty of open shots which should help his 50-40-90 chances.
Alex Dahling G Summit Country Day C/O 2017: In my eyes the most underrated shooter in the city. Last year posted a line of 43/45/86 from the field with over half of attempts coming from the three. This year with a much more expanded game I expect all of his shooting percentages to rise this year, if that happens Dahling should be one of the newest members of the club. So far this year the senior shooting line is 50/56/77 through the first 3 games.
Sam Martin G Summit Country Day C/O 2017: While also known for his exploits on the soccer field, Martin is one of the better point guards in the Cincinnati area. The 5’10 senior is off to a great start from the field shooting over 60% from the field, 55% from the field and 80% from the line. With Summit looking like the dominate team in the CHL, I expect Martin to have many efficient evenings that will allow him to shoot a solid percentage from the floor.
Honorable Mention: Dwayne Rosado (Hughes), Daniel Keyes (St. Xavier), Tyler Mitchell (Kings)
