Recruiting Report: Zach Harvey (2019)
KANSAS — One of the state’s top players in the Class of 2019, Topeka Hayden Catholic guard Zach Harvey is gearing up for a big season after a strong summer.
Harvey was a part of an undefeated KC Run GMC squad that featured some of the state’s premier 2019 players. He is an athletic guard that can create shots for himself and others through slashing and attacking. He can shoot from distance and from the mid-range.
“My summer was an amazing experience,” Harvey said. “My focus for the summer was just trying to win and have fun doing it. (Run GMC) helped me become a better player, but they also helped me become a better person off the court as well.”
A 6-foot-5 guard, Harvey has blown up on the college recruiting scene, securing offers from Creighton, Kansas, Kansas State, Northwestern, Iowa and Nebraska. He has taken unofficial visits to Kansas, Northwestern, Nebraska, Creighton and Kansas State.
Now, however, Harvey’s attention is focused on his high school season where his Hayden Wildcat squad has high expectations.
“I have really high expectations for myself and my team,” he said. “Every time we step on the court I want us to come out on top and then go win a state championship after that.
“I enjoy playing with my high school teammates/team as well as my traveling teammates/team.”
Harvey says the biggest influence on his basketball career has been his dad, and he enjoys watching Russell Westbrook and Devin Booker play.
“My dad has helped me through the process and everything I’ve needed to know to become a better player physically and mentally,” Harvey said. “I’ve tried to implement Russell’s aggressiveness and pace, and implement Devin’s pull up game.”
