Recruiting Report: Stockton Ashby (2017)
Stockton Ashby has been a mainstay for the Hillcrest Huskies. Ashby has been a 4 year starter and coming off a junior year that saw him average over 11 points and 6 rebounds per game. He is also the best defender for the huskies and often guards the best player on the opposing team. Ashby is hoping his senior year will be the year that the Huskies can get over the hump and win a state playoff game.
When asked how his team will be this year Ashby said, “I’m very excited and confident about my team this year. We have six seniors that have all bought into what we are trying to do and I think we can compete with anyone is the state. With our size and are guard play, we can give Olympus a run for the Region 6 title.”
When asked about his strengths as a player Ashby said, “I’m a versatile player that can do a lot of things well. I’m good at attacking the rim and finishing over big guys. I also think my defense is something I do really well and I try to bring that every night.” When asked about his weaknesses he said, “being a consistent outside shooter has something I have really worked on in the off-season. I’m hoping my hard work will lead to a higher shooting percentage from the three point line this year. I have also worked on my ball handling quite a bit and I feel more confident with the ball.”
Ashby plans on serving a church mission for two years after he graduates from high school. He hopes to continue his playing career once he returns from his mission. Ashby has heard from several smaller level colleges and will consider those and also consider walking on at an in-state D1 school.
