The 5-foot-11 point guard burst onto the scene this summer as a standout with a very talented All-Iowa Attack 17U Red squad.
And he’s carried that momentum into his senior season, leading the Mohawks to a 4-1 record and averaging 17.8 points on 55 percent shooting in the process.
Still, his recruitment has not picked up much since the spring when we last talked with him.
“Everything is about the same right now, I haven’t really seen much more popup,” said Lang. “There are a couple of JuCo schools that have popped up now though. I still haven’t made a decision of whether I want to go to a four year school quite yet.”
With how quickly Lang’s skill-set has developed over the past year, he could be a guy who comes out of a two-year stint at a JuCo with some scholarship options.
“Iowa Central is the main one talking to me, their coach has given me a couple calls,” said Lang. “And at a JuCo I’d get a couple more years to mature, and to really get the feel of college basketball and everything.”
He mentioned which Division III programs continue to pursue him the most.
“I’d say Coe and Simpson are probably the heaviest looking at me right now,” said Lang.
“And as the season goes on, if I keep playing the way I’m playing, hopefully I’ll pick up a couple more looks and maybe an offer here and there.”
With little expectations coming into the season, the Mohawks got off to a largely unnoticed 2-0 start. And then they beat Waukee to move to 3-0, and people started noticing.
“The way we worked in the offseason we knew we were going to be able to compete against those guys (Waukee),” said Lang. “And we knew that everyone else in the state was expecting Waukee to just kind of come in, blow us out and go on to the next one. We just wanted to show the state what we know we can do this year.”
Lang’s role with the Mohawks this season?
“I’m just kind of looking to score, looking to get other people the ball when they’re hot,” he said. “We have a lot of weapons on our team.”
