Jaxon Clarke has proven he is far from his twin brother’s side-kick. Hunter Clarke, Jaxon’s brother, was an all-region player last year and is averaging over 20 points per game this year. Jaxon has kept right with him, averaging over 16 points per game, while playing great defense for the 4-0 Ogden Tigers. Jaxon is the key for the Tigers success this season and he will need to continue his outstanding play into region if the Tigers want to make the playoffs.
Jaxon had this to say about his team’s 4-0 start, “We’re playing really well as a team on offense and defense. We believe this is our year to make some noise in 4A and our whole team has bought in. We start four seniors and we have been playing together for a long time.” When asked about his prediction of Region 5 play Jaxon said, “I think we can beat Woods Cross and win the Region 5 title. I expect us to finish no worse than 2nd place.” A 2nd place finish would be huge for Ogden who has really struggled at the 4A level.
When asked about his strengths Jaxon said, “I’m good at attacking defenses and finishing at the rim. I try to always put pressure on the opposing guards. I also feel like i’m a good three point shooter. “ Clarke made 45 threes last season. The confident Clarke also said, “I feel like I’m one of the best point guards in 4A. I would definitely put myself in the top 5.” When asked about his weaknesses he said, “Sometimes I force plays driving to the basket. I need to recognize that if there is nothing open I need to pull it out and get our team into our offense. I also need to work on my floater especially when I play at the college level with bigger guys.”
Clarke is a very solid guard who has really elevated his game this year. His recruitment has also picked up and has received interest from the following junior colleges: Peninsula College, Pierce College, Highline Community College, and Dakota College of Bottineau.
