At 6’9, 240-pounds, there aren’t many high school players that can match Boedeker’s size in the paint. A forward that plays around the basket, Boedeker is a terrific rebounder as evidenced by his game-high 13 on Friday against Hogan Prep at the Hy-Vee Shootout. He scores most of his points off cuts and offensive boards, but can shoot out to 15 feet as well.
“He had some knee issues early on in his career and he played spot minutes last year and we talked about doing a better job of making him the focus of our offense,” head coach John Rost said. “He is 240 pounds and 6’9. He has been ferosious. He has a very soft touch and great hands.”
Jack also played at the top of Aquinas’ press break against Hogan Prep on Friday, giving Aquinas both an outlet passer that could throw the ball over the top, as well as a ready-made safety to protect the basket.
“He threw a couple really good passes,” Rost said.
This past summer he played with NL Elite along with Tyree King (Blue Springs), Danny Bradley (Shawnee Mission North) and others.
“I focused on playing my game and helping the team do its thing,” he said.
St. Thomas Aquinas is off to a 3-0 start after its win over Hogan Prep and have high expectations for the season.
“Our high school team is special,” Boedeker said. “We have a lot of great players with great personalities. We are very well rounded and can play 11 deep.We play well together and make each other better. We have a great time on and off the court as we are all great friends who have fun playing together.”
Boedeker said there are plenty of tough challenges ahead in the Eastern Kansas League (EKL) and looks forward to big games against Bishop Miege, Blue Valley Northwest and St. James Academy and others.
“We have a very tough schedule and there isn’t an easy game,” he said. “The EKL is very strong and we are excited to play on Friday nights and get a good crowd. The most important games are the playoffs.”
Boedeker says his parents have been a great influence on his basketball career.
“They have supported me through my whole career,” he said. “I couldn’t thank them enough for all that they have done for me.”
Although he currently does not hold any offers, but has drawn interest from a host of schools, including Rockhurst, Nebraska Westlayen, Columbia (St. Louis), Emporia and James Madison.
He has plans to take a couple of visits towards the end of the season.
