“I’ve gotten a few letters and calls and camp invites from Nebraska-Wesleyan, Loras and William Penn. Just like emails and letters, and invitations for visits and stuff like that,” said Demeulenaere.
“I wouldn’t say my recruitment is too much of a priority right now because I still have a lot of basketball left. But it’s definitely something that I think about from time to time.”
Still with his junior and senior seasons ahead of him — not to mention his 17U offseason — Demeulenaere says he’s eager for more recruitment, but it’s not his top priority right now.
“I’m just going to play the best I can,” Demeulenaere said. “And whatever coaches see in me they’ll see in me, and whatever opportunity I get, I’ll take.”
A highly skilled floor-general with great basketball instincts, Demeulenaere’s lack of size is more than made up for by his talent.
“I’m a pass-first point guard who is a pretty good shooter. And I think I have pretty good vision, and I think ball-handling is one of my strengths,” he said. “I just like to get my teammates involved, and hit shots when I’m open and get baskets when my team needs them.”
Last season — his sophomore campaign — was Demeulenaere’s first season playing with Grand View Christian after transferring into the school from Pella.
Coincidentally, the Thunder’s first game this season was against Pella. And Demeulenaere was good in that one, scoring 15 points and dishing out 4 assists to go along with 4 steals.
“I’d say that I have an increased role from last year. I’ll definitely need to score a lot more and just be more of a leader. I’ll need to be a leader for my team, and be more vocal on the court,” he said.
“I’m just focused on getting my team back to the state tournament, and being the best player I can be for the team and helping in whatever way I can.”
