The 6-foot-5 forward picked up his first offer from North Dakota this past summer during a tournament with the Iowa Barnstormers’ 16U squad.
And has been in contact with a bevy of additional D1 programs since.
“I visited UNO (Omaha) a couple months ago. I’ve been talking to UNI, Lehigh, Drake, Western Illinois, and USD I still talk to a lot, North Dakota State, Nebraska a couple times, I think that’s it,” said Hazekamp.
It was after a game, during a tournament in Wisconsin when Hazekmap received his first offer from UND.
“My Barnstormers team had a Saturday night game in Milwaukee, and after the game Coach (Jeff) Horner texted me and said he was going to give me a call, and later that night he called me and gave me an offer,” said Hazekamp.
“They said they love the way I compete, and that I don’t really get fazed by anything. They really like my energy and my skill-set, and they said they think I would really make an impact there.”
With an important junior season, and then a critical 17U season ahead in the next 10 months, Hazekamp could see that offer list swell by this time next year.
“I would say UNO (could be the next to offer), just because I visited there and they text a lot and have wanted me to come to some games. And I would say North Dakota State, three of their coaches have called me, and they want me to go on a visit there sometime,” said Hazekamp, who mentioned what his goals are for the next 10 months.
“A couple more offers would be great, but I’m just trying to play my game and let the pieces fall where they may. But improving my game is the main focus for me, and just having fun really.”
