SF Joffari Brown (St. Joseph’s – 2018)
Brown is a 6’4” power wing that uses his physicality and strength to his advantage. The St. Joe’s junior plays tough on the interior using that strength to rebound and absorb contact at the rim. He is also an outstanding mid-range jump shooter. Drills them for days much like his older brother. Quick release with elevation off the ground. Brown had 16 points and 9 rebounds including five offensive boards. Potential D2 prospect in the junior class.
PF Jordan Morris (Proviso East – 2018)
Morris is a 6’5” undersized power forward that plays with tremendous energy and tenacity on both ends of the floor. He has an incredible motor. That combined with his NFL defensive lineman body makes him a force on the high school level. He was a man child against Von Steuben in the paint scoring with pure force and athleticism in the paint. Got on the offensive glass for multiple put backs. He is just so quick inside. Showed a couple quick moves, but the skill level needs to continue to improve. Presence defensively anchoring in the paint. He had 19 points (7-10 FG).
G Ralphy Cruz (Von Steuben – 2017)
Cruz is a scoring combo guard that plays with a lot of flare for the game. He is aggressive when the rock is in his hands. Likes to attack off the bounce and go right at his opponents on straight line drives. Good body control finishing at the cup. Hit a pair of threes including a bank off the glass on a deep trey. Crisp passer that makes some spectacular dishes, but is also a bit turnover prone. He had 20 points (8-13 FG), 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 turnovers. Upside D3/NAIA prospect.
G Detalian Brown (Morton – 2019)
Very intrigued with this 6’1” sophomore combo guard. Brown has the ability to run the point some, but is also a scorer. Fluid athlete that looks comfortable on a big court playing against older players. Has solid strength and projectability in his frame. Gets after it on the defensive end of the floor with his tenacity. Handles it well against pressure and initiates the offense when playing on the ball. Finishes well in the lane and can hit an occasional jumper. Brown had 16 points.
SG Marco Pettinato (Lincoln Way West – 2017 – Lewis)
Lewis has themselves a great talent in Pettinato. The D2 signee will be a four year impact guy for them. He is the ultimate competitor at the high school level. In this game he had part of his tooth knocked out and played the rest of the game. Pettinato is a scorer that attacks downhill with his strength to overpower opponents. He doesn’t care who is in the lane he is going right through them for the bucket. Gets to foul line at an extremely high rate. Plus shooter from both mid-range and three. Tough defender that can also mix it up inside defending the post. He had 21 points and 11 boards.
SG Demarius Jacobs (Uplift – 2017 – SIU)
Jacobs is having a Player of the Year type campaign. The older Jacobs brother is a Southern Illinois commit and they have got themselves one heck of a prospect. Jacobs is a long and lanky wing that is smooth with everything he does. Explosive first step was consistent throughout the game as he won off the dribble over and over again. Finishes at the rim tremendously well with body control and agility. Also can slam it home with monster jams. When put in ball screen situations he makes correct reads and gets where he needs to score. The jumper was also falling. Jacobs had a dominant performance offensively, but was also a beast as usual defensively with his shot blocking and perimeter defense. He had 37 points (16-20 FG), 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals.
C Jalen Shaw (Larkin – 2018)
The 6’10” center from Larkin is one of the top post prospects in the junior class. He has always had the “prospect but not player” label. Meaning that he looks the part, flashes potential, but has never put it all together. We saw him put it all together at Proviso. He picked up two fouls in the first two minutes of the game. His coach trusted him to play through it and it paid off with a monster performance. Shaw who in the past was seen as a bit mechanical in the post showed multiple fluid hook shots and counter moves. His high release point on his hook was unguardable. Sealed well when working on the block. Defensively his length was a factor altering shots. Struggled with turnovers, but all in all it was the breakout performance for Shaw as his stock is one the rise. He had 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Low-major programs need to be tracking him.
PG Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park – 2018)
Dosunmu was the high scorer in their game and he just made it look so easy. The 6’4” point guard has great size for position along with his insane speed in the open floor. He attacks people off the bounce with smooth handles and slippery penetration. Dosunmu gets anywhere he wants on the floor at will. Against an athletic and quick Hillcrest team he was still on another level. Pushes it in transition and nobody could stop him. Also shined as a distributor with crisp passes sometimes across the court to his teammates for quality looks. He had 26 points (11-17 FG) and 3 assists. Elite high major prospect. #1 status in 2018 for Illinois is on lock.
SF Isaac Stanback (Hillcrest – 2019)
Stanback is a 6’4” power wing that plays with a lot of toughness and strength. Almost all of his damage at this point in his career is done in the paint with quickness and power. Quick to the offensive glass for put backs. Explosive finisher inside. Tough defender. Jumper needs quite a bit of work still. He had 16 points and 5 boards against Morgan Park.
SG Lucas Williamson (Whitney Young – 2017)
Williamson is the top uncommitted wing in Illinois and he showed why at Proviso. The smooth and athletic shooting guard had an effortless 19 points. He never forces anything and lets the game come to him. This year he is taking on a much bigger scoring load. The senior wing is a slasher that gets to the hoop where he knows how to use the glass to score. Solid mid-range jump shooter. Versatility is his calling card still. Contributes passing, rebounding, and defending. Mid-major and low-major programs looking for a wing that can contribute across the board this is your guy!
