Our attention was grabbed when Hilborn teamed with other Anoka size to limit Theo John up front to two scores in a twenty point loss.
“This 6-foot-6 senior has proven to be a stout defensive player and still manages quality points and rebounds each game,” said an Anoka Coach. “Hilborn has been under the radar for some but under the watchful eye of a number of schools with him leaning towards Bethel University for the education.”
Hilborn is scoring just over eight points a game this season with a high of 17 points in a nine point loss to Hudson.
“Richard is receiving contact from Bethel, Northwestern University, Hamline and a few other schools,” said the coach. “Richard has interest in Science and bio-technology. He is always interested in playing basketball.
“He has been invited to Bethel to be introduced to the team and has attended their summer program the last five years.
“He is leaning toward Bethel University for both academics and basketball. He has been considered for a number of schools out state as he carries a high grade point average but I believe he is primarily looking to stay local unless the right opportunity comes to him, that is a must.”
Hillborn was a solid member of the Minnesota Suns this past spring and summer where he made a name for himself defensively.
“He was voted Mr. Intangible by his coaches and teammates. He is a stout 6’6″ and a lean 250 pounds.”
At that size it’s easy to see why local D3 programs are interested in his potential, work ethic, and academic resume.
