And under the tutelage of two older brothers who have excelled the past several years with the Huskies, it’s no wonder the freshman center already looks a seasoned vet on the floor.
“I’ve been playing with the high school guys for a few years now, and I played against a lot of guys playing in the high school tournaments over the summer” said Lasek.
“And playing with my brothers has definitely helped a little because he’s (Trent Lasek) been starting since his freshman year and he’s a senior now. He really passes on a lot of knowledge and he really shows me where to go and how to do things because he’s seen everything before.”
Just a freshman, and with minimal exposure, Lasek has yet to see any recruitment come his way. But he does have the potential to be a hot commodity in the coming years.
“My tournament team coach, he used to coach at Iowa (Darryl Moore), and he’s been talking to (college) coaches for me,” said Lasek. “But there hasn’t been any interest so far,”
Like seemingly every other center in the country, Lasek has been focused lately on becoming a more versatile player, and wants to expand his game out to the perimeter.
“As of the beginning of last summer, I’ve really been trying to open up my game to where I could play on the perimeter a little and face up from mid-range,” said Lasek. “And I think that will allow me to have an extra edge, because opponents will have to respect my jump-shot and my post game.”
As he heads into his freshman season, Lasek and his coach have high expectations for him.
“Coach really wants me to come in and grab rebounds and do whatever I can to help us win,” said Lasek. “He says he sees me as a double-double guy, and in our conference I think I can come in and make an impact right away.”
