Continue ReadingOne of the best guards in the Western North Carolina comes out of Asheville High School. 6-foot-2 shooting guard Trey Irby has been having a great start to the season and PrepHoopsNC had the chance to talk with the senior shooting guard this week. According to MaxPreps.com he is averaging 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists per game this season. He is skilled at scoring the basketball and his Asheville High School team recently beat a very good Mountain Heritage High School team.
PrepHoopsNC: How’s the season going so far? Record, averages….
Trey Irby: The season is is going well, we’re learning from our mistakes and fixing them every game. At 2-2 we’re not to be written off by any means. I’ve been averaging about 15 points and 9-8 rebounds per game.
PrepHoopsNC: What game has been the toughest so far and which other players in your conference do you think can play?
Trey Irby: Our toughest game in the this year was Mountain Heritage but we pulled it out with sheer determination. I think C.J Thompson and Isaiah Pruett have been handling their business this year.
PrepHoopsNC: What schools have you been hearing from?
Trey Irby: I haven’t been hearing from any schools. I have no serious offers and nobody has made their interest known.
PrepHoopsNC: What do you feel that you have improved on since last season and his summer.
Trey Irby: I feel like I have become a better ball handler and scorer in transition and a better slasher and finisher at the rim.
PrepHoopsNC: What are the parts of your game that set you apart from other players
Trey Irby: . I feel like my mid-range game, rebounding and ability to get to the rim are what make me different from most players and help me to find success on the court.
