St. Edward is 4-0 and Calhoun has been an important contributor to their undefeated start. “We are playing good basketball right now,” said Calhoun. Calhoun is averaging 12 points per game to go along with 5 rebounds. Those numbers are sure to improve as the season lengthens.
A true center, Calhoun controls the paint but is also able to step out and shoot the 15 foot mid-range. “My game is 15 feet and in. During the off-season I really worked hard on getting my conditioning better. I’m running the floor much better and also my free throws and mid-range shot have improved.” Calhoun spent this summer playing with the King James (EYBL) AAU program.
A number of schools are taking notice of Calhoun’s on the court talent. “I have some schools recruiting me. The most consistent is Lourdes University (NAIA). I’ve talked to a couple of MAC schools, like Kent State and Akron. Some NCAA DII schools have also reached out to me, Lincoln Memorial and Northwood.” Calhoun said that he thinks his game should catch the eye of college coaches’ because he works hard, is enthusiastic, and determined. “I’m a team player and I know what it takes to win.”
When asked what his goals were for his senior season, Calhoun stated, “my ultimate goal for this season is to make it to state and when the state title. But, overall, I just want to make me and my team better. I try to be better than I was before. I’m always trying to improve.”
