MVP: Austin Nelson of North Henderson High School. Nelson, a 6-foot-6 point forward did it all tonight. A majority of his buckets were top of the key driving the lane and making lay-ups. He was just too strong, too big and too skilled for Reynolds’ big men. Nelson is the reigning Co-Conference Player of the Year and does not look like he has missed a beat.
Play of the Game: A break away on a press by North Henderson led to a Austin Nelson two-handed jam that made the crowd go crazy. Kalin Ensley also got a breakaway on a turnover and threw down a one-handed jam off a assist from Nelson.
Best Offensive Performance: Austin Nelson, was scoring at will the entire game. No player on Reynold’s roster could slow him down or stop him. Nelson would have had around 35 points if he made his free-throws.
Best Defensive Performance: Kalin Ensley of North Henderson. Ensley grabbed a lot of rebounds and made it hard for the Reynolds big men to get the ball in the paint with his length.
Best Guy off the Bench: Hunter Stackhouse, is a 6-foot-4 sophomore with a chance to be a name to listen for over the next few years. He is long and active in the passing lanes, has a high basketball IQ, can shoot out to the three-point line and has good size. Also impressed with freshman Tyler Parton. The young guard played with poise and made shots.
Best Intangibles: Isaiah Pruett always plays as hard as anyone on the floor. He dives for loose balls, grabs rebounds that a 5-foot-9 point guard is not supposed to get. He is tough as nails and will out compete anyone on the basketball court.
Best Under the Radar Performance: Kalin Ensley. The sophomore wing is athletic, has good post moves, soft touch around the basket. He had 14 points on the night.
Best Underclassman: Hunter Stackhouse (2019) is a player that I could see playing at the Division Two level for four years. He would be a great asset to a school as a player who will give you his all and can play the game. He has good size, not overly athletic but knows how to get it done. Also impressed with freshman Tyler Parton of Reynolds HS. The young guard made the best of his time on the floor and made smart plays. Needs to add a little weight but that will come with time.
Best Passer: Isaiah Pruett. Has great court vision, always makes the right pass, does not make many mistakes with the ball in his hands.
Best Story to Watch Moving Forward: Reynolds is a solid basketball team without most of it’s athletes still playing football. Look for Kaedin Robinson to a big factor once football is over for Reynolds.
