New Senior Names To Know: 4A
New senior names earn their spot every year and help programs win a large number of games. Here are some potential players ready to step up and make an even bigger impact.
Korbin Gardner, 6’7, SR, wing/forward (Uintah) : Had a huge opening night game against Davis with 27 points, 6 rebounds and two steals. Gardner also connected on two three pointers and has proven he can play inside and out.
Jaxon Clarke, 6’2, SR, guard (Ogden): Has lead the Tigers with wins against Morgan and North Summit. In the wins, Clarke has a 19.5 scoring average and has proven he is just as dynamic as twin brother Hunter Clarke.
Chase Berry, 6’6, SR, wing/forward (Skyridge): Had a huge opening game with 19 points in a win vs Salem Hills in the first basketball game in Skyridge High School’s history. Berry is going to be an excited player playing along senior star Marcus Draney.
Michael Scheffner, 6’2, SR, guard Corner Canyon): Had a huge opening game vs Bountiful with 24 points in a 10 point win. Scheffner was mostly a JV guy last year so it will be interesting to see if he can maintain this production.
Sage Thornock, 6’0, SR, guard (Bonneville): Has come out of the gates blazing by averaging 17.5 points for the Lakers in a 1-1 start. The Lakers are in dire need of a consistent scorer and Thornock looks to provide that.
Eshaya Wada, 6’1, SR, guard (Kearns): The explosive guard dominated in a blowout win over West High School. He has 20 points and has a knack for getting in the paint to score. Wada is also a lockdown defender who can guard 94 feet.
John Villanueva, 6’6, SR, forward (Hillcrest): The big man has proven he belongs on the varsity level. Villanueva averaged 11 points and 9 rebounds in two wins vs East and Clearfield. He also has brought a defensive presence in the middle and has shown the ability to guard bigger players.
Josh Elison, 5’10, SR, guard (Springville): The quick guard has shown his ability to score ball and is averaging 16.5 points per game. Elison is also a deadly shooter and will need to continue to score at a high rate in order for Springville to win the Region 8 title.
