Rayville put on an impressive display last weekend in the Madison Prep Tournament, reaching the finale of the tournament after beating Jehovah-Jireh and East Ascension. Rayville stuck with Madison Prep as well as anyone, going into the final quarter only down 2, before Madison Prep pulled away in the 4th.
- Bossier (9-3)
After dropping a game to a good, but not great Airline team, the Bearkats have won four straight, including wins over very tough Ouachita Parish and Ruston teams. Had Bossier not lost to Airline, they would be ranked much higher
- Grambling Lab (13-3)
After going undefeated in the Northside tournament, Grambling has started district play already. In a 1A district that Grambling should go undefeated in, the last big test for them will be playing in the Sunkist Shootout at St. Thomas More. If they can knotch some quality wins there, don’t expect them to move down too much the rest of the season.
- East Ascension (13-3)
I’m sure that 4th place isn’t how East Ascension envisioned leaving the Madison Prep Tournament, losing two games straight for the first time in over two years. With an incredibly tough schedule still ahead of them, there is still a ton of opportunities for East Ascension to move back up.
- St. Louis (9-1)
St. Louis continues to beat up on weaker teams, which looking at their schedule, they could continue to do all season. Any team that beats them the rest of the year would be considered an upset.
- John Curtis (9-2)
The Patriots could be coming back down to earth, after starting the season with a scorching 9-1 start. They have lost two out of their last three, and could continue to drop more as the season goes along. District play will be big for them, and if they could steal a game from St. Aug, that would be huge.
- Washington-Marion (14-4)
I keep waiting for Washington-Marion to make the leap and take their place in the top ten teams, where I feel like they deserve to be, but it seems like for every two steps forward they take one step back. The day after giving Natchitoches Central their first, and thus far only loss, they drop a game to Terrebone, before losing again to a Peabody team that beat them a week earlier. That gives them five losses, when in my opinion they should only have two at most.
- Chalmette (9-3)
After losing two straight the week before, Chalmette had a huge week last week, winning the championship of their own tournament. They came out on top of a very good field, getting wins over H.L. Bourgeois and Riverside Academy. They appear to be clicking at the right time, which is going to be needed to come out on top of an incredibly tough district.
- Ouachita Parish (12-3)
Ouachita went 2-2 this past week and dropped games to two tough teams that will defend the hell out of you, in Bossier and New Iberia. Ouachita Parish was held to 40 and 38 respectively in the two games, so keeping it a low scoring game might be the key to upsetting them come playoff time.
- Peabody (12-3)
After going 5-1 this past week, Peabody picked up a number of really quality wins, including a second win against Washington-Marion, and their only loss came against Natchitoches Central, which has been a top five team all season.
