Today we take a lot at some of the top uncommitted or unsigned senior power forwards in the Kansas City area. These are players from both sides of the border. There are a handful of players we have not seen in person that are not included in this list, and a few others that we feel might play another position at the next level.
This list will be updated later in the season as new names emerge.
1. Chester Graves, 6’5, 2017, Park Hill (Mo.)
Graves is a Power 5 football recruit, but … he is a big time power basketball with a high motor and the ability to rebound with the best of them. He has a jumper out to 15 feet and has the ability to play above the rim as well.
2. Duvonte Beard, 6’5, 2017, Ruskin (Mo.)
Plays much bigger than his listed height. At 6’5, 180-pounds, Beard is a strong rebounder and interior player. He nearly averaged a double-double a year ago and has Ruskin to a strong start this season. He is at his best in the high post, facing up and beating his man to the rim.
3. Poncho Freeman, 6’3, 2017, Shawnee Heights (Kan.)
Although undersized, Freeman is a powerful interior player that is quick to the ball and plays bigger than his listed height. Freeman has drown some interest from several Division II programs.
— Because there were so few players we felt fit the bill in the 2017 class as power forwards, we decided to include 2018 power forwards to watch, which seem to be numerous in the KC area.
Parker Braun, 6’8, 2018, Blue Valley Northwest (Kan.)
Tyson Cathy, 6’5, 2018, Liberty North (Mo.)
Cartez Crook-Jones, 6’5, 2018, Grandview (Mo.)
Devin Drew, 6’4, 2018, Raytown (Mo.)
Mason Fair, 6’5, 2018, Raytown (Mo.)
Mason Farr, 6’8, 2018, Lee’s Summit North (Mo.)
Wesley McCullough, 6’7, 2018, Raymore-Peculiar (Mo.)
Daniel Parker, 6’5, 2018, Blue Springs (Mo.)
Joe Pleasant, 6’8, 2018, Blue Valley Northwest (Kan.)
Sa’von Witt, 6’6, 2018, Raytown South (Mo.)
