Five Performers….
- Trevin Knell showed-out at the Tarkanian Classic scoring 36 points on 4 deep 3’s.
- Emmanuel Akot the TOP Prospect in the class of 2018 went off for 30 against 5A Layton to help Wasatch Academy pad their Dick’s Nationals resume.
- Jace Eyre of 1A Panguitch had 29 points against Diamond Ranch.
- Jeff Baradziej of Wasatch Academy had 23 points and hit 5 three-pointer.
- Connor Fulton almost single-handedly pulled off an upset against Pleasant Grove.
Five Surprises….
- Woods Cross we knew they were going to be good but they are exceeding expectations now and look dangerous. Trevin and Trevor are a great duo.
- College coaches sleeping on the son of Antonio Lang, curent Utah Jazz assistant. Judge Memorial’s 6’7 Sr. F Alan Lang, his stock is rising.
- 2A Emery High School in Catle Dale could go 21-0. Clear 2A favorites beating up some 3A schools too.
- Timpviews 6’3 Jr. Hunter Erickson is playing really well (26 ppg) against great teams. College coaches need to jump on this kid NOW!
- Summit Academy droping 104 points while playing a 2-3 zone the whole game.
Five Upsets…
- Viewmont beating American Fork who was an early 5A favorite 52-47.
- Bingham looses to a middle of the pack Salesian, CA team and only scores 32 points.
- American Fork beats Overland,CO at the Tarkanian 55-52.
- Roy beats Layton Christian Academy on a full court pass and layup at the buzzer.
- Providence Hall beats Waterford by 5. In 2A Waterford was picked as a top 5 team.
- Woods Cross beats John Muir, CA in the Tarkanian. This team is on a roll!
Five Noteworthy…
- Wasatch Academy is the best team in the state. They’re not getting any love from the local writers, but they’re playing angry. Local sports writers have them as low as 4.
- Copper Hills is foreal. They have a 4 point loss to Bingham and that’s it. They also destroyed AF 53-25.
- 1A Panguitch is 32-3 in the last two years and currently 8-0. They look untouchable.
- Pleasant Grove is 6-0 and seems to have the guard play to go with the biggest basketball player in the state 7’5 Matt Van Komen.
- Dixie has one of the toughest schedules out there. They will play anyone and they remain 9-0 with a recent 57-56 win over Ridgeline.
