Spartanburg Day School located in Spartanburg, South Carolina is off to a 5-2 record overall this season with wins against NCISAA 2-A contender Gaston Day, Carolina Day, Cardinal Newman (SC), Proviso East (IL), Kenwood (IL) and Union City (TN). Their two losses have came at the hands of Kenwood (IL) and Esperanza (CA).
Top 10 national recruit Zion WilliamsonThe Griffons are led by national top 10 recruit for the 2018 class Zion Williamson. The 6-foot-7 power forward broke out last season and over the summer as a heavily regarded recruit and now has over 30 offers from the powerhouses of college basketball. Carolina Day School (Asheville, NC) Head Coach Trip Cogburn and his Wildcats recently played Spartanburg Day and Williamson, “(Zion) Is one of the five best high school players I’ve ever laid eyes on. Incredible. His combination of athleticism, size, strength, body control, and basketball IQ is astounding.”
Asheville Christian Academy has a 1-3 record so far this season with a win against Avery County HS and their losses coming from Gaston Day, Carmel Christian and East Rutherford HS. The Lions are led by sophomore 6-foot-2 shooting guard Caleb Mills, who has offers from Lipscomb and Winthrop. Mills is another player who has had a breakout summer and is starting to attract college coaches with his play. The Lions also boast 6-foot-8 big man Chris Clayton. He is a rebounding machine and has a high level of athletic ability. He has no offers at this point but is on the way to playing his way to a college scholarship. A newcomer on the Lions roster along with Mills is Max Spurling. The 6-foot-4 sophomore is a scorer. He has been playing varsity for Asheville Christian Academy after spending his freshman season at Avery County HS. He has an ability to score off the dribble or without the ball.
