Continue ReadingThe Edmonds-Woodway Warriors played a tight first half against the Ingraham Rams. The Rams kept it close, after attacking the basket over and over. With just over two minutes left in the half, the Warriors only led by four points, but the Rams couldn’t contain the Warriors. At the end of the first half Edmonds-Woodway hit a crucial buzzer-beating three pointer to gain momentum heading into the second half. The Warriors used that momentum to expand their lead throughout the second half and the Rams couldn’t keep up. The momentum carried the Warriors to a 81-63 victory.
MVP: Keaton McKay (Edmonds-Woodway)
6-0 guard McKay led the Warriors with 22 points, shooting fifty percent from the field. He made some vital three pointers, one at the half, and more throughout the game to lead the Warriors to a victory.
Play of the game: McKay’s halftime buzzer-beating three-pointer
Edmonds-Woodway’s guard Keaton McKay hit a three at the buzzer at the end of the first half to give the Warriors a seven point lead and the momentum.
Best offensive player: Keaton McKay (Edmonds-Woodway)
It’s tough not to choose McKay again, because he was by far the best offensive player on the court. He showed range from all over the floor shooting 18-footers, to 30-footers. His clutch three pointers were also a focal point to the Warriors victory.
Best defensive player: Edikal Seare
Warriors Seare finished with two blocks and a steal. His blocks were emphatic and he made sure to send the ball as far into the stands everytime he could get to a ball. His hands were active, he’s long and he can jump out of the building. He seems to have a great attitude for defense.
Best guy off the bench: Pietro Parrilla
Edmonds-Woodway’s point guard, Parrilla provided a spark off the bench with his passing and a couple of quick buckets in the first half.
Best intangibles: Mason Lyng (Ingraham)
Ingraham’s guard, Mason Lyng was all over the floor, diving for loose balls. I counted at least eight dives. His hustle and passion was unrivaled by almost all the players.
Best under-the-radar performance: Ben Sutton (Ingraham)
Ingraham’s 6-9 center, Sutton gave Ingraham fits all night. Sutton scored 20 points, most of them in the post, but also shooting jumpers from about 18 to 20 feet. He also showed some athleticism driving to the hoop multiple times. His big body and athleticism make him a solid player.
Best underclassmen: Mutdong Bol (Edmonds-Woodway)
Bol, a 6-1 freshman guard, played quite a bit and has some serious talent, and length. With a long body, ball handling skills, a decent looking shot, Bol has a bright future at Woodway.
Best aspect of the environment- Ingraham’s Introductions
The Ingraham introductions was one of the best introductions I’ve ever seen at the high school level. All the gym lights were turned off, and a strobe light with multiple different colors flashed while music was blaring from speakers.
Best story moving forward- Conference play for Edmonds-Woodway
The Warriors will start their conference schedule in just over a week against Meadowdale, and will look to make state again after last year.
