This year’s event was no different with sold out crowds on a nightly basis and coaches such as UNC’s Roy Williams sitting sideline every night to see certain players. Personally I was unable to attend the first two days but made it in town for the final day of the event which included Championship games. Listed below are some of the players that stood out, some names you may have heard already and others will be new to you that coaches and fans will want to keep a very close eye on.
- Greensboro Day 2017 F JP Moorman (2017): JP displayed the versatility in his game that makes him such an asset to have on the floor, he can defend multiple positions, stretch the floor offensively and plays strong inside. He finished the game with nearly a triple double scoring 14 Points, pulling down 8 Rebounds and dishing out 7 Assist.
- Grays Collegiate Jalek Felton (2017): Jalek is a player that you have definitely heard of before he has signed to UNC and actually committed to the Tarheels early on in his HS career. He has a very smooth game with crafty ball handling skills and a natural gift to score the ball, what is probably most overlooked about this young man is outstanding passing ability. Once he gets to Chapel Hill and is surrounded by a high amount of talent, I believe we will see how special of a PG he can be.
- Grays Collegiate Juwan Gary (2019): Juwan is another player in the talented class of 2019 prospects on the east side of the country, he has a game that is mature beyond his years and he flat out can get it done on the court. He’s 6’6 with good length and athleticism, can knock down shots from mid pretty well and is becoming a more consistent defender. He finished with 15 Points and snatched down 9 rebounds on the night as Grays came up short against Greensboro Day
- Greensboro Day 2018 John Newman (2018): John didn’t have his best showing in this game but his potential as a prospect is something that you have to love, he’s a guard that can score it but is just as good if not even better as a defender. He has outstanding lateral quickness and quick hands defensively and on offense he moves well without the ball so you already know he can transition into a college system smoothly. He finished with 8 Points and 7 Rebounds on the night shooting 3-7 from the field.
