Sage Thornock is averaging 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game for the 3-2 Bonneville Lakers. Here is the interview I had with Sage.
What are some strengths you have in your game that make you the player that you are?
“I’m a drive first player and I’m always trying to get into the paint to score or create for my teammates. I’m also a leader for my team and I pride myself in leading my teammates on and off the court.”
What are some of your weaknesses that you would like to work on?
“I would like to continue to work on my outside shooting. I’ve improved but there is still work to be done. Also, sometimes I fall in love with scoring in one way. I need to be a more balanced scorer.”
Who is the toughest player you can recall playing against in Utah Prep basketball and why?
“I would say Dacian Spotted Elk from East High School. He’s a big guard who is a very explosive player. It was the hardest defensive matchup I had last year. As much fun as it was playing against him I’m glad he’s graduated and gone.”
What team on your schedule do you want to beat the most and why?
“That’s tough to pick one team but I would say Ogden. There the closest school to us and our games are always very intense with huge crowds.”
What team that isn’t on your schedule in Utah would you most like to play and why?
“Lone Peak is a team I have always wanted to play. There one of the best programs in the state and I think that would be a great experience to play them.”
How do you see your team doing this year?
“Our expectations are to win or at least compete for a Region championship and play in the playoffs.”
Who is you Favorite NBA player and why?
“Stephen Curry. He has so many dimensions to his game that makes him a great player. I also like that he was an underdog. People didn’t think he would be a great player and he’s proved everyone wrong.”
What is your favorite moment during your basketball career?
“This past Friday we played Fremont. We played our best game of the year and we beat a good Fremont team. This is a win that can propel us to a great season.”
Who has the best home crowd in the state other than your own?
“Ogden has huge crowds whenever we play them. The crowd is very loud and the atmosphere is electric.“
What do you want to major in for college:
“I’m looking into majoring in Business and Marketing. I want to have my own business one day.”
What do you plan on doing after high school?
“I’m going on a LDS mission after graduation. Once I get back I would love to be able to play at the college level.”
