The Basketball Interview…Connor Shaw

Connor Shaw is averaging nearly 21 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds per game for Weber High School. Here is our interview with Connor:
What are some strengths you have in your game that make you the player that you are?
“My biggest strength is breaking down the defense and finding my teammates for shots and easy buckets. I also have a good mid-range game and this year I’ve been shooting the three point shot well.”
What are some of your weaknesses that you would like to work on?
“I need to do a better job at having defensive intensity all times. Also, I would like finish better going to the hoop over bigger players.”
Who is the toughest player you can recall playing against in Utah High School basketball?
“I would say Frank Jackson and Jesse Wade. Frank is at Duke and Jesse will be playing for Gonzaga. Both of them can score in so many ways and I never knew what they were going to do. Those were great experiences for me to guard such good players.”
What team on your schedule do you want to beat the most and why?
“Definitely Fremont. There our rival and we have never lost to them in my four year career. It would be great to beat them two more times and go out undefeated.”
What team that isn’t on your schedule in Utah do you want to play the most and why?
“I would of liked to play Lone Peak. They have one of the best programs in the state and would be a fun to see where we stand versus a team like that.”
How do you see your team doing this year?
“We have a new coach and we lost ten seniors from last year but we are hitting our groove. I think we can compete for the region title.”
Who is your favorite NBA player and why?
“My favorite player is Kyrie Irving. He’s someone I try to model my game around. I love his handles and his ability to create his own shot for himself and his teammates.”
What is your favorite moment in your high school career?
” Last year, Fremont at home. We beat them to clinch the region title. There was thousands of people and to clinch the title on our own court was something I’ll never forget.”
Who has the best home crowd in the state other than your own?
“When we play at Fremont they have packed gym. There student section is pretty crazy and it’s a fun environment to play in.”
Favorite off the court activity and why?
“Hanging out with family and friends.”
What do you want to major in for college?
“Undecided”
What is your plan for after high school?
“I’ll going to play college basketball. I have received interest from Eastern Wyoming, Western Wyoming, George Fox University, Dawson Community College, and Central Wyoming College.”
Prephoops Evaluation:
I think Connor has a complete offensive game and he has become one of the best point guards in the state. Connor has been asked to score the ball this year and he has responded well. He is a consistent 20 plus per game scorer so far this season. Connor can play at a high level junior college or a solid division two school.
