Finally on Friday night, it happened as Carolina Day School knocked off The Greenies (8-3, 0-1) on their home floor 77-73 in overtime.
MVP: Luke Rutherford- The senior guard poured in 20 points, while making five 3-pointers. He showed senior leadership from the very start of the season and is a workhorse on defense. He is one of the “gym-rat” players that will make a great college player at the Division II or III level.
Play of the Game: After forcing overtime with Christ School, Carolina Day scored on the next five possessions to secure a chance at the win and with Rutherford making two free throws with .06 left in the extra period and sealed the win.
Offensive MVP: Raishaun Brown- The sophomore guard scored 17 points for the 4-4, 1-0) Wildcats. It was right at his average for the season. He is one of the top rated sophomores in the area and is ranked a top 50 recruit in the state.
Best off the Bench: Kojack Thompson- The sophomore guard for Christ School had one of his best games of the year scoring 10 points to give the Greenies a boost off the bench.
Best Under the Radar Performance: Ben Lochen, the revent Randolph College commit had 12 points for Carolina Day. The 6-foot-7 forward grabbed key rebounds and showed why the Lynchburg, Va., school offered him a scholarship.
Best Intangibles: Tai Giger scored 13 points and Peyton Truesdale had 13 for Carolina Day School. These two win the best intangilbes award because they produce every night with a steady average of around 12-15 points per game between them.
Best Passer: Damon Harge Jr.- The junior point guard continues to impress being the leader on the floor. He scored 10 points and continued to find the right man and dissecting defenses.
Best Shooter: Matt Halvorsen- The Western Carolina commit scored 14 points including a key three with 41 seconds remaining to help send the game to the extra period late in the fourth quarter.
