Former number 1 recruit Jatrious Smith will drop out of the rankings after he announced that he will spend his senior season in Canada, preparing for a professional career overseas or in the United States. He will be training with Butch Carter, a former NBA player and head coach. He was enrolled at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville but will not return to high basketball action in North Carolina. E.E. Smith was a preseason favorite to a state title contender with the homecoming of Smith.
Another former number 1 recruit, Lavar Batts Jr., will regain his position as the top prospect in North Carolina. The point guard for the defending NCHSAA 3-A state champions Jay M. Robinson High School has committed to VCU.
Coming in at number two in the rankings will be 6-foot-3 shooting guard Blake Harris from Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh. The Washington commit has had a solid start to the season and moves up two spots to number two.
At number three is JP Moorman, a 6-foot-7 small forward from state powerhouse Greensboro Day. Moorman committed to Temple this summer and has helped the Bengals to a undefeated season so far and a win against Cannon School, a preseason favorite for a NCISAA championship.
At number four will be North Carolina commit Brandon Huffman. The 6-foot-10 prospect is coming off a strong summer and is the best post prospect in the state.
At number five is another big man from Charlotte, Justyn Hamilton of Independence High School who has committed to Temple University along with Moorman.
At six, shooting guard Michael Hueitt Jr., from Northwood Temple Academy in Fayetteville. Hueitt returned home after spending last season at High Point Christian and has committed to Old Dominion.
The number seven prospect in the updated rankings is 6-fo0t-3 shooting guard Kaleb Hunter of Nuese Christian. Hunter has committed to UNC-Greensboro.
The number eight spot belongs to 6-foot-3 shooting guard Tyler Maye. He moves up from number 12 to his current ranking. He has offers from Coastal Carolina. Western Carolina, New Hampshire, Winthrop, High Point, Kennesaw State and Charlotte.
At number nine in the updated rankings is Cam Hamilton of Vance High School. Hamilton moves up from #30 after a great start to the season. He recently had 40 points in a win over Glenn High School.
David Caraher comes in at number 10 in the rankings this time. The Houston Baptist commit drops one spot from number nine and has helped Weselyan Christian to a undefeated season far early.
Quay Kimble will make one of the biggest jumps in the rankings this time. Kimble makes the jump from number 48 to 15. He is a great high school scoring guard. He quietly had 37 points last week in a win over Reynolds High School. He scores and controls a game without anyone knowing it. I think he will make a Division One roster because of his scoring ability and leadership quality.
Another big jump in the rankings will be Austin Nelson from North Henderson High School. The 6-foot-5 forward moves from #48 to #24. He has had games of 24, 26 and 16 points so far to go along with double-digit rebounding performances.
Christ School shooting guard Matt Halvorsen made a big jump over the summer and keeps rising our rankings. The WCU commit jumped from higher ranking to #23 right after the summer evaluation period and has continued to play at a high level. He will move up from #23 to #17 in the latest rankings. He has been steadily averaging around 18 points per game for Christ School this season.
