Well there is no direct answer to that question, for some it can come by: playing in top exposure camps, others from national level high school tourneys , exposure combines and some from playing in top AAU tournaments during the summer. Regardless the setting, one of the main ways that many youngsters create interest to their name is through matchups, like the old saying goes ‘‘ To get a name, you have to go at somebody who already has a name.’’ Well this past weekend that is exactly what Fayetteville Academy Forward William Onyeobi did when his team matched up with NCISAA 1A defending state champ Trinity Christian. For William the matchup against 2019 Star Forward Joey Baker provided the opportunity, Baker is rated as a top 20 prospect nationally with 15+ scholarship offers at this point and interest from schools like UNC, NC State, Louisville and other ACC schools.
Once the game began William wasted no time at all, he was aggressive from the moment the game began and made a high amount of plays on both ends of the floor. The matchup with Baker was very interesting to watch as these two youngster would go back and forth throughout the entire game. Baker would showcase the outside shooting that has college coaches salivating over him, while William showcased his: slashing ability, strength, and scoring ability that D1 schools will absolutely love! There was no official individual stats kept but I would have to say William was in the 20 Point and 10 rebound area, which is extremely impressive when you consider it came against a top prospect in the country.
To make it plain and simple, it is absolutely a shock to me that William does not have a D1 offer at this point. If there was college coaches in attendance this past weekend during his performance then I would have not been surprised at all to see him come away with his first offer, however one thing we know for sure is that the stock off William Onyeobi is on the rise!
