Continue ReadingSpringfield and Loranger was a competitive game between two local teams but there wasn’t much scoring from either group. The Bulldogs led 16-13 at the half and were able to hold off Loranger for a 41-35 win (video). Here’s a quick look at a few players from the matchup:
Springfield Bulldogs
Springfield has a trio of guards that should be solid producers for them this year in 2017s Cameron Fox and Damariae Claiborne, as well as 2018 point guard Isaiah Jackson.
Fox is the most skilled of the group with a strong handle coupled with good speed and quickness. He attacked the lane well finding teammates for open looks on a few occasions and also knocked down a couple of jumpers finishing with 9 points. The 5-foot-9 guard can dribble himself out of trouble in most situations but has to be more aggressive offensively to have more of an impact.
Claiborne is a two-sport standout for Springfield and recently joined the basketball team after playing a bit of everything for the Bulldogs on the gridiron. The 5-foot-9 guard finished with a team-high 11 points including 3 3-pointers.
Jackson (5-foot-8) was seemingly biding his time against Loranger and put up all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter. He knocked down two 3’s to himself going and like Fox, has good speed and quickness.
Loranger Wolves
Loranger is under new direction this year with first-year head coach Tyler Hennes taking the reins of the program. The Wolves are searching for continuity with one another but are still off to a 2-3 start with wins over Holden (66-32) and Doyle (41-35).
Loranger has gotten early contributions from a couple of football players who just made their return to the court in 2017 6-foot-3 F Jabari Coston and 5-foot-6 2017 G Travis Lamb. Coston had 14 in the win over Doyle while Lamb had 10 including two 3-pointers. 2018 G Bryan Spears has also been one of the team’s more consistent players on offense scoring 7 against Springfield, 7 against Doyle and 16 against Fontainebleau in the Covington Tournament.
