Ryan was the Stars fourth leading scorer last year and the expectations for him are big this season. Ryan is spending a lot of time getting ready for the year.
“I have been training and lifting with my trainer,” Ryan said. “Also, as a team we have been competing in our fall league.”
The Stars felt they underachieved a year ago when they won 9 games against 16 losses. Ryan wants that mark to improve.
“Some goals of mine are to stand out and become a complete player this year. Also to make the 1st team (all league). As a team make it to state and win a championship.”
The Stars will be without graduated Robbie Metcalf and Joey Oslund but leading scorer Sam Boehne is back with his 16.8 a game along with Ryan.
“Our chemistry this year as a team is a lot better,” Mazurek said. “I can already see the chemistry on the court this year playing in fall league. Especially between Sam (Boehne) and I.
“I believe that this year we can compete at a higher level because of the commitment each player has had in the offseason in the weight room and on the court.”
Mazurek was most frustrated a year ago but his injury right before the playoffs. His section was quite winnable (only one team had a winning record) but Ryan missed the game.
“Last year I fractured my wrist around sections and I had to sit out and watch STA play us at home and win,” Ryan said.
“Over the summer I have thought about that game and it has hungered me more and more for this season and make a state run.”
Colleges are aware of Ryan and have sent mail his way. Nobody has stepped forward with big interest yet but it will come.
“Right now consistently no one but I’m hoping to change that this winter,” Ryan said.
