The Otters went 27-4 a year ago before falling to DeLaSalle in the state title game. Rund put up a team high 16.2 points per game and nearly 20 points per game in the post-season.
Now as an upperclassmen Rund knows his routine, but he also knows that Isaiah Lemke’s departure because of graduation, as well as a few others, is a factor that needs to be addressed.
“This fall I’m just doing what I always do, getting my guys in the gym with me working out,” said Rund.
“We graduated some leadership and won’t be as deep as we were last year. We return a lot of our scoring though. We have multiple guys that can shoot it. Our ball movement is our biggest strength.”
The talent is there. Along with Rund, the team has sophomore Matthew Johnson, junior Harrison Christensen, senior Matthew Monke, senior Elijah Colbeck, and others.
Rund spent his spring and summer playing with the Minnesota Comets 16U squad. Between his state run and his 16U play, several college programs watched Rund and are in contact.
“I am hearing from Minnesota State-Moorhead, Minnesota-Duluth, Augustana, Southwest Minnesota State, Winona State, Bemidji State, St. Cloud State, U of Mary, Minnesota State-Mankato, U of Sioux Falls, and Northern State,” said Rund.
“I was up at Minnesota State-Moorhead the other weekend.”
