He tore his ACL in Ames the summer before his junior season while playing in his final grassroots tournament. Subsequently he missed more than half of his junior season, and made a minimal impact with his team upon his return.
But since, he’s worked to improve his game, and that progress along with great height has led to his first offer, plus plenty more interest.
That first offer was from Des Moines NAIA Grand View, he received it late last month.
“When I visited there (Grand View) I got the offer, and I was at a camp there the week before. It’s pretty nice and it’s a pretty good fit for me. Also the major I want to study is business management, and the school is right there in Des Moines, a pretty good business hub right there,” said Arrington, who highlighted some other interest he’s been receiving.
“I got Minnesota State University Moorhead looking at me, I’d really like to go there, they’re a pretty good Division II school. I go a visit up to Mount Mercy on Tuesday (today) up in Cedar Rapids, so hopefully I can get an offer there.”
“A couple other NAIA schools are looking at me; William Penn, University of Jamestown. And also Southwestern Community College in Creston.”
Arrington mentioned to PHIA why he’s so intrigued by Minnesota State Moorhead.
“They’ve had a lot of success lately, and the competition is really good up there,” he said. “I’ve just heard a lot of good things about it, so I’d be really interested to go up there on a visit and get some more interest from that school.”
With his senior season officially starting next Monday (practice), Arrington is eager to get out and show what he can do at full strength.
After returning from the torn ACL, Arrington was able to average just 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in 10 games last season.
“I really don’t like to focus on points, but I think this year I could contribute 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, that’s my goal. And then recruiting-wise, I’d like to get a couple more offers,” said Arrington.
“I feel like Chad (Moran) and I are expected to score the majority of our team’s points this year. And I’ll have to learn how to do that because I didn’t really have to do that last year, but I think I’ll do it well.”
