He’s taken several visits to area programs, and has mentioned that academics will be key when selecting a college.
“I visited Cornell earlier this month (October), and I went to a practice there too. I’m also visiting Coe sometime in the first two weeks of November. And those are basically the two schools I’ve been talking to so far,” said Eilers.
“I also visited Morningside back in the summer, and then I’ve also been in contact with some other Iowa Conference schools like Dubuque, and Loras, and Luther.”
He added: “I really just want to find the right fit with the school, because I really want to get a great education and play basketball, that’s important to me.”
With his entire senior season left to showcase himself, Eilers still has time to pick up some late interest and potential offers.
“I’d say that recruitment is starting to be my priority,” he said. “I want to show what I can do more than I’ve done in the past, and hopefully that brings some team success as well.”
After being a role player with the Hawks last season, Eilers seems poised to play a much bigger role during his senior season, and he’s had all spring, summer and now fall make progress with his skill-set.
“I’ve still been working on my shot a lot, we go in a couple mornings a week with our coach and get up some shots on the gun before school,” he said. “And we’ve been having a lot of open gyms, so we’re getting a lot of basketball in.”
After averaging 5.6 points last season as a junior, Eilers is ready to breakout this winter.
“I just want to be more efficient and shoot a high percentage this season. And then rebound the ball more, and more of a ball-handling role, that sort of thing,” said Eilers, who says the Hawks will be a team to watch out for this season.
“I think we could be a lot better than last year. We played really good over the summer and we have been building on that over the late-summer and fall, and we’re ready to get started here in a couple of weeks.”
