The highly skilled senior is a terrific ball-handler with great vision, both of which helped him dish out a team best 99 assists last season.
Still, he’s seen college interest come in from just one area Division III program.
“I’ve really only gotten interest from Central, and I went and visited there last week,” said Longnecker, who elaborated on the visit.
“I thought it was a great school, and I’ve gone to their camp three times. I’ve been talking to their coach for awhile, and I really like him. I thought it was a good visit overall.”
But he’s not just a standout on the hardwood, Longnecker is seeing more recruitment come in for his prowess on the pitch.
“I’m actually getting more interest in soccer, so I think I’m leaning towards soccer right now,” said Longnecker who says Loras, Dubuque and Grand View are options for soccer.
“Just with having more interest in soccer I guess I might be a little bit better at that. But I don’t necessarily like it more.”
He’s hoping some more basketball interest can trickle in throughout his senior season.
“I hope I get a lot more exposure because I feel like I didn’t get a ton last year as more of a role player,” said Longnecker. “And I’m just going to do what’s best for my team and hopefully coaches can see that I’m a team player and they notice my abilities.”
After averaging 6.3 points and 4.3 assists per game last season while coming off the bench, Longnecker will undoubtedly have a larger role this season.
“I think my strengths are keeping control of the game and taking care of the ball. I had a pretty good assist-to-turnover ratio last year, and I’m even looking to improve on that,” he said.
“And then this year I’m going to look to score a little bit more because we lost a couple players, so I’m excited to do that.”
