The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 20 points, six rebounds and four assists a game for the 19-win Proctor Rails last season and is looking forward to a senior season that is sure to be exciting.
“We are going to be better this year,” said Urie of his high school team. “We lost two of our top guys but we’ll be okay still. We have a lot of guys back and a lot of seniors so we’ve got high expectations for this winter.”
Urie is a scrappy two-way point guard who can score effectively by both getting into the paint and by shooting 3-pointers. He’s a solid defender who plays a ball-hawking style on the perimeter.
Urie’s generated a good amount of college interest that includes several NAIA schools and a number of DIII schools.
“I’ve been talking to Jamestown, Briar Cliff and MIAC schools like Concordia, Hamline and Augsburg,” said Urie. “I plan on waiting out the season. My coach thinks I can get some more interest this year and I don’t want to rush my decision but those five are the ones that have been recruiting me the most.”
The Rails could contend for a state tournament bid this upcoming season with Urie leading the way along with two other returning starters and several top bench guys back.
