But, despite being a top-50 prospect in our 2017 rankings, Latusek says football is “definitely” what he’ll pursue at the next level.
“I’d definitely say I’m leaning towards football,” said Latusek. “I’ve got offers from Augustana and Drake, and I’ve gotten interest from some of FCS schools, like Iowa State.”
After a successful junior campaign and an offseason playing with the Iowa Barnstormers’ 17U squad, Latusek has seen some basketball interest come his way.
“For basketball I’m seeing some NAIA and D3 interest, so not too much.”
It’s Not enough interest to sway him away from his desire to play football in college.
“I would say I’m definitely probably 100 percent leaning towards football right now,” said Latusek.
Still though, he’s completely dedicated to leading his Wolverines squad to another state tournament appearance.
And his summer with the Barnstormers was certainly beneficial to his development as a player.
“This last offseason I played with the Iowa Barnstormers and that gave me the opportunity to play against higher level competition, and it really allowed me to work on my game more,” said Latusek, “I’ve been really working on shooting and trying to extend my range.”
Last season Latusek and his Wolverines were ousted in the first round of the 2A state tournament. He says they are looking to better that result this time around.
“We’re really excited for this season, we lost a lot of good seniors, but our (2017) class has been together since we were young,” said Latusek. “We think we have a good chance to get back to Wells Fargo (Arena) this year, and maybe do some damage.”
