My guess was that as a good athlete, Mike just likes whichever sport he’s in at the moment. I think I was right.
“Our season had its ups and downs, but I think we came out of the season a lot better and more of a respectable team,” he told NHR. “If a school with the right fit had an interest in me, I could definitely see myself playing college football.
“I felt there was constant improvement through the season. Playing a new position at quarterback called for quick improvement. Along with strengthening my skills at QB and athletically, I think I grew in the areas of leadership and playing through adversity the most this year.”
This past summer, Coble joined a talented Select 16U team and consistently played against high-level opponents. Along the way, he picked up interest from Winona State, Sioux Falls, Northern State, St. John’s(MN), Waldorf, Hillsdale, Furman, Augustana, and a small amount from NDSU. With coach Trey Altenhofen moving to Omaha, however, Coble may be looking for a new club team in 2017.
“It’s a lot of fun playing against tough competition. It really speeds up the pace of the game and will hopefully slow it down during the Winter season,” he said. “I’m not sure who is planning on staying with the team from last year, but I do know of a few that are looking for a new team to play with. I am keeping my options open.”
But before all of that starts again, Coble will start another winter season with Byron. He averaged 15.3 PPG as a sophomore last year.
“We have a lot of competitors with a potentially deep rotation. We all don’t like to lose so our goal is to be a very tough team this winter.”
