Dunn gave BSM 7.2 points per game as a sophomore and returns along with key contributors Will Whitmore, Michael Wexler, and Derek Drees plus there is some very good young talent at BSM that will be making an impact this year like Jamison Brewer, Carter Uphus, and others.
Dunn is the third leading returning scorer so he will have an important role as a contributor and a leader. Joe knows this and is putting in a lot of work to prepare.
“I am preparing for my junior season in a variety of ways,” Dunn said. “First, I have a strength and conditioning trainer that I workout with 3-4 times a week.
“On the skills side of things, I workout 1-2 times a week with Jamison Battle and Minnesota D1 coach Jay Fuhrman. In addition to that, I go to open gym twice a week as well as get shots up at lifetime or school most days of the week.”
BSM was 17-10 last year and has the talent to match that record, or be even better. Expectations are pretty high within the school
“My goals for the year are to first and foremost help the team in every way and any way I can,” Dunn said. “I have high expectations and goals for us as a team this year. I think we have the right group of guys and talent to make a run for state this year despite a tough section. Individual goals are to take over a large chunk of the scoring load that will be missed from last year.
“I want to achieve all-conference this year as a player and show everyone what I can really do in a leadership position and large role on the team. I’m looking to have a breakout season.”
The talent looks to be there, experience is there, and expectations are there for BSM. For this season to be a success many things need to happen and Joe Dunn did a great job of running through those things.
“This year our team is much more geared towards a teamwork approach and everyone playing a role,” Joe explained. “Also we have many young players eager to prove themselves on the varsity floor for the first time.
“Last year we had one or two guys that did a lot of the scoring but this year it will be much more spread out. Everyone can score everyone can contribute. That very reason is what’s going to allow us to win games.
“For one thing, were deep and everyone can score or contribute in some way. Second, we are a very hard working and mentally tough team which sticks out to me as we’re going to play tough defense.
“The scoring will take care of itself but if we can work hard on the defensive end and get some stops we are going to be very tough to beat.”
